Sistemski razred v Javi ima dve metodi za branje sistemskih lastnosti: 

getProperty: Razred System ima dve različni različici getProperty. Oba pridobita vrednost lastnosti, imenovane na seznamu argumentov. Preprostejša od dveh metod getProperty sprejme en argument.getProperties:Metoda java.lang.System.getProperties() določa trenutne lastnosti sistema.

Opis metod:  

getProperty(ključ niza):  Metoda java.lang.System.getProperty(String key)  vrne niz, ki vsebuje vrednost lastnosti. Če lastnost ne obstaja, ta različica getProperty vrne vrednost null. 
To temelji na paru ključ - vrednost, kot je navedeno v spodnji tabeli.

getProperty(String key Definicija niza):java.lang.System.getProperty(String key Definicija niza) omogoča nastavitev definicije argumenta, tj. lahko nastavite privzeto vrednost za določen ključ.

getProperties() : java.lang.System.getProperties()pridobi trenutne lastnosti, ki jih JVM v vašem sistemu dobi od vašega operacijskega sistema. Trenutne lastnosti sistema so vrnjene kot objekt lastnosti za uporabo z metodo getProperties(). Če tak nabor lastnosti ni prisoten, se nabor sistema najprej ustvari in nato inicializira. 
Prav tako lahko spremenite obstoječi nabor sistemskih lastnosti z metodo System.setProperties(). Obstaja število par ključ-vrednost v datoteki lastnosti nekateri od njih so naslednji:
